CEA-List, a major center for research on smart digital systems, is engaged in more than a hundred European research and technology projects. The institute contributes actively to EU research strategy through a variety of research communities and other organizations. And, beyond Europe’s borders, CEA-List works with some of the leading academic research laboratories in the world. Finally, our startups, which do business in some 50 countries, also play a vital role disseminating our technologies.
CEA-List brings its science and technology know-how to a particularly proactive European research strategy that translates into 150 project submissions every year. An impressive 30% of the European project proposals we submitted in 2020 were accepted.
Our European project track record has allowed us to build a reputation as a legitimate stakeholder in Europe’s research strategy, which we are helping shape through our participation in various policymaking bodies. For example, CEA-List represents the CEA in the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Manufacturing, Digital, and Food communities. We are active in a dozen European organizations on big data (BDVA), robotics (euRobotics), the Factory of the Future (EFFRA), and embedded systems and cybersecurity (Artemis, ECSO).
We also have ongoing relationships with the Fraunhofer Institute and KIT in Germany and VTT in Finland.
CEA-List coordinates the European cybersecurity network SPARTA, created by the European Commission to rethink cybersecurity research and innovation in Europe. The SPARTA project’s 44 members from fourteen EU member states are working together to support European strategic autonomy. The research programs currently underway are addressing health, the economy, technology, and government.
Our researchers and technicians are participating in the EU INTEGRADDE project on additive manufacturing for industry. The project’s objective is to demonstrate the potential of direct energy deposition (DED) for the additive manufacturing of certified large parts. A total of 26 partners from eleven countries are involved.
The nine-partner H2020 INSPEX project, coordinated by CEA-List, has produced a portable environmental perception system for the visually impaired. Data fusion algorithms transform information about the environment into a 3D audio representation that can alert the user to potentially dangerous obstacles. The project, which packs in a number of innovations, won an Étoiles de l’Europe (Stars of Europe) special jury’s award!
With articles regularly published in top-tier scientific journals and research partnerships and exchanges with prestigious universities like Carnegie Mellon University (on knowledge engineering), Stanford University (on tomorrow’s web technologies), and the University of California, Berkeley (on the design of mixed-criticality systems), CEA-List has a strong international reputation.
When it comes to representing CEA-List internationally, our startups are not to be underestimated! CEA-List startup Sport Quantum, which makes connected electronic shooting targets, has already sold more than 1,000 units of its flagship product in 20 countries worldwide. Kalray, another CEA-List startup, signed a reseller agreement to bring its MPPA (massively parallel processor array) for AI to the Chinese market in 2020. And CEA-List startup Arcure brings smart manufacturing solutions to 30 countries.
